Update on smart meter installations. We’re continuing to undertake contactless smart meter installations for our customers, where possible. We continue to follow latest guidance at all times. If you have an appointment scheduled during the lockdown period, this can go ahead as planned. We have developed a no contact installation process which all our technicians will follow, as well as ensuring they have appropriate PPE which they will wear for the duration of the install. We've an obligation to install smart meters as part of a government led nationwide upgrade programme. The Government requires suppliers to roll out smart meters as standard to homes and small businesses across Britain by 2020.

Overall, your meter installation can take a couple of hours, it usually takes less time than that, but we advise you to allow four hours in case of any complications. The engineer will need clear access to your meters, so make sure they’re not in any locked cupboards!
